Going Paperless Without Going Hairless

One of the truly remarkable aspects of being a “Barefoot Consultant” is the ability to go paperless with your mail, documents and stuff that you formerly had to drag around with you every where you went.

Today it takes a combination of tools and skills but all relatively easy to learn if you have basic computer knowledge.

This biggest problem for most of us is how do you get that darn paper into your computer. Then the problem becomes how to get that electronic paper somewhere on your computer that you’ll find it and do what you are supposed to do with it.

We use a combination of 3 tools to help with that:

1. Scansnap: A great prortable scanner, even will run off the battery power from you laptop, and easy to carry in luggage or briefcase (large). Today we use the S300… great performer.

2. Evernote: This is a great tool for taking all those scanned documents and organizing them. You can also “set flags” on them to remind you to do something with the document. Often we need a document for reference… a contract for example… but there is no action that needs to be taken.

Then you sometimes have something you need to sign and fax back… we set an action flag and every time we go into Evenote we are reminded that we need to take care of this.

Here is a video that shows you how to link your ScanSnap to Evernote…

(From Brooks at a great resource called: DocumentSnap.com )

3. Earth Class Mail: A god send… a physical address to receive all your mail and have it scanned and sent to you via email. Again, now it is easy to take all those documents and move them into the Evernote system and flag as needed.
